Product #1 - Earring Frames, by Ketut Suadana

Ketut Suadana started his business in Bali in 2002. He makes albums, notebooks, cards and some other products from recycled paper. He has skill in designing many models for his products and most tourists are interested in them. For the first three months he worked alone but as his business took off he started hiring employees and opened a small art shop. His business then employed twenty five local people and was able to export gifts to the US, Germany, France and Italy.

Ketut explained that by the development of his business, many commercial banks offered him loan services to help him grow the business further. However, he trusted his business to DINARI because he knows DINARI will assist him and use his money for a good cause. He states, “I choose to partner with DINARI because we share the same business principals - caring for people."

One of Ketut’s business goals is to be able to provide more people with work, and help them to support their families. DINARI has twice provided Ketut with loans from SUPER loan program. The first was in 2002 with total amount Rp. 25,000,000 (US $2,777) and the second was in the end of 2003 with total amount of Rp. 30,000,000 (US $3,333) to enable him to expand his business to four employees and to start two workshops in the poor district of Bali where he grew up. DINARI also helps Ketut to access a linkage with partners in other countries such as New Zealand and England. Opportunity International Network ordered his notebooks for their Global Conference in February, 2004 in Philippines.

DINARI pays more attention to Ketut’s business by providing such loan amounts not because of Ketut himself but because of the impact of his loan to his employees. Rp 30,000,000 for forty employees - 67% are women, is the same with Rp. 750,000 per client in trust bank group in the second loan cycle. Ketut expects that these workshops give transformation impact to about 120 people in the district. His business now exports gifts to England, New Zealand, US, Spain, Australia and France.

His vision is to employ 200 people and to set up more workshops in poorer rural areas, especially to motivate the young generation to get a job in their area and they do not need to find a job in the city.
